Agriculture commissioner to talk border security

The top agriculture official in Texas will address security along the Texas-Mexico border in an address before a U.S. Army support organization.

Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples will renew his call for additional security assets along the border Tuesday in a midday address before the Texas Capital Area Chapter of the Association of the U.S. Army.

He will also discuss a report authored by retired Gen. Barry McCaffrey and retired Maj. Gen. Robert Scales, titled “Texas Border Security: A Strategic Military Assessment.” The report views the battle against Mexican drug cartels and Texas border security from a military perspective.
Staples has argued that Texas farms and ranches near the Rio Grande are on the front line of what he calls a real border war.
